Like the popular saying that the greatness of a man is not in the wealth he has acquired but in his integrity and ability to affect those around him positively. Prof Elizabeth Ogboli- Nwasor has proved that impacting lives of people is way more accomplishing than accumulating only wealth.
Born on the 8th of December, 1968 in Issele-uku, Aniocha North LG, Delta State, Professor Elizabeth attended Government Day Secondary School in Zaria after her primary school and proceeded to the then, Ahmadu Bello School of Basic Studies with interim JAMB matriculation examination in October 1984. In October the same year, she got admitted to study medicine and graduated in June 1990 with a Bachelor of Medicine and Surgery. She did her postgraduate Residency Training in Anaesthesia and obtained a Postgraduate Diploma in Anaesthesia in 1994 and a Fellowship Diploma of the West African College of Surgeons in anaesthesia in 2001. She finished her anaesthesia Residency training and became a Specialist in Anaesthesia in 2001. She received her Master’s in Public Health at the Ahmadu Bello University College of Medicine in 2010 and a Fellow in Obstetric Anaesthesia and Pain Management at Edith Wolfson Medical Centre, Holon, Israel, in 2010.
Ogboli-Nwazor was the Mace Bearer of the West African College of Surgeons from 2011-2017 and the former Chairman of Medical Women’s Association of Nigeria, Kaduna State Branch. She was a former member of the Faculty Board of Anaesthesia of the West African College of Surgeons, Hospital Champion, Pain Free Hospital Initiative ABUTH Zaria and also the Programme Lead for the WFSA Obstetric Anaesthesia Fellowship Programme in Nigeria. She is also a former member of the Faculty Board of Anaesthesia of the West African College of Surgeons.
Currently, the renowned Anaesthetic Consultant is a Professor of Obstetric Anaesthesia and Pain Management in the Department of Anaesthesia, Faculty of Clinical Sciences, College of Medical Sciences, Ahmadu Bello University Zaria and Chief Consultant, Head Obstetric Anaesthesia Unit, Department of Anaesthesia ABUTH Zaria, Kaduna State, Nigeria. She is also the Chairman of Pain Management Team and Pain Relief In Labour Service, ABUTH Zaria, Kaduna State, Nigeria.
She is the President of the Nigerian Society of Anaesthetists (NSA), Vice President II of the Society for the Study of Pain, Nigeria (SSPN), President of the Cancer Pain Special Interest Group, of International Association for the Study of Pain (IASP). She is also a member of the Education Committee of the World Federation of Societies of Anaesthesiologists (WFSA).
Dr Elizabeth’s area of interest and research include: Obstetric Anaesthesia, Pain Management, Pain in Palliative Care, Critical Care, Anesthesia, Public Health, Medical Education, Lifesciences, Teaching, Clinical Research, Epidemiology, Immunology, Surgery, Healthcare Science, Patient Safety and Clinical Quality.
Shehas conducted detailed posting including end-of-posting exams in Anaesthesia, conducted Research on ICU Utilization and attended various conferences including Nigeria Medical Association (NMA), Nigerian Society of Anaesthetists (NSA), West African College of Surgeons (WACS), All Africa Anesthesia Congress (AAAC), The American Society of Anesthesiologists (ASA), The World Congress of Surgery, Obstetrics, Trauma, and Anesthesia (WCSOTA), and many more.
Prof Nwasor is an author and co-author/editor of 5 Medical books including a textbook titled ‘Introductory Anaesthesiology’ and has over 40 articles in international and national peer-reviewed medical journals. She has presented over sixty-five (65) papers at conferences, seminars and workshops. She has participated in a number of educational projects, and is a recipient of numerous scholarships, awards and grants.
